WHAT IS TAIJIQUAN?
“Taijiquan” is the ancient spelling of what is commonly known as “Tai Chi”. “Chen Taijiquan” is a martial art created by the Chen family more than 400 years ago. All styles of Tai Chi today have evolved from Chen Taijiquan. It is characterized by low stances, explicit Silk Reeling movements and spontaneous bursts of power. These exercises are a series of active poses that work to gently strengthen muscles improve balance and coordination and calm the mind.
Although it is a martial arts discipline that has self-defense applications, Taijiquan was originally created using Daoist concepts of “Qi” or “Life energy”, Yin-Yang balance, and Traditional Chinese Medicine theory to train strong and healthy warriors, even into old age.
